Rhodar Charity Review 2025: Over £120k of support!

Posted on in Company News

For those who have been following Rhodar for some time, you’ll know that our efforts to support charitable causes and fundraising initiatives are an integral part of our culture and values. We’re constantly seeking opportunities to get involved and never shy away from pushing ourselves to our limits to help raise vital funds.

We’re especially excited about our commitments for this year, as Rhodar has contributed a record-breaking £120k of support over 2025!

From kit sponsorships and walking challenges to food donations and habitat protection…it’s wonderful to have had the full backing of the company, across all regions, to ensure that organisations throughout the UK benefitted from much-needed support.

As there have been so many initiatives, we simply can’t include them all in this review, so we wanted to take the opportunity to highlight a selection of the numerous campaigns we’ve been involved in this year:

Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge for Martin House Children’s Hospice

In September, a team of 61 hardy souls (including some of our friends from Vastint UK) tackled the iconic Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge.

This 24-mile hike took our group over the three regional peaks, Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough - climbing an epic 1585m and all completing the challenge within the allotted 12 hours.

Following a surge of support from friends and family, we successfully raised over £40k for Martin House Children’s Hospice, our main charity for 2025!

Thank you to everyone who helped us to reach (and massively exceed!) our original £10,000 target for this epic event.

Rhodar Charity-6

After the success of our first Charity-6 back in 2022, we implemented this initiative once again for 2025, this time, in support of Archie’s Caravan, Cash for Kids (Cumbria), Leeds South & East Foodbank, Homeless Street Angels, Willowbrook Hospice and Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice – each nominated and selected by colleagues within the business.

We’ve seen a range of fantastic campaigns this year, including a ‘Race Lunch’, scratch card game, ‘Around the UK in 30 Days’ challenge, food and clothing donations, and a host of bake sales…

… and our final campaign, in support of Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice, raised an incredible £10,135 – a Charity-6 record!

Travelling from London to Liverpool in just 9 days, Fran O’Brien successfully made it to Zoe’s Place, Liverpool, where he was given the warmest of welcomes from the team there. Well done Fran, hope your feet have recovered!

A huge well done and congratulations to our Charity-6 campaigners for 2025: Lisa Hill, Chris Foy, Alex Hayford, Tom Middleton and Fran O’Brien. Thank you for organising an incredible 12 months of fundraising!

Making a difference in Scotland

The team has been particularly busy in Scotland this year, as we donated £1,000 towards the coach hire for two Water Safety Awareness training days in Ayrshire, to transport school children and staff to Loch Doon, where the event was being held.

We also contributed £2,750 to WGM Engineering Limited’s ‘Association of Project Management (APM) Challenge’ earlier this year, in conjunction with our project at Dalmarnock Wastewater Treatment Works. This meant that a team of young graduates and apprentices (nicknamed the ‘Habitat Heroes’) were able to carry out their mission for Scottish Water sites, by planting native trees, sowing wildflower seeds to attract pollinators, and installing bird and hedgehog boxes for local wildlife.

As part of our important Social Value commitments for Rhodar’s demolition project at Darwin Tower, for the University of Edinburgh, we facilitated a range of initiatives over the course of the scheme; organised and managed by Rachel Larder, Social Value Project Lead.

In support of organisations such as Inch Park Community Sports Club, The School Bank West Lothian, Civil Service Strollers Football Club, and more, Rhodar contributed over £40k towards social value between January and October.

It’s been wonderful to contribute to so many incredible initiatives, whilst playing a part in revitalising the University's main campus.

Rhodar to the rescue!

A lot of time goes into developing and perfecting fundraising events like the ones we’ve mentioned already, but there are some moments that can never be planned, and you simply stumble upon them…

This year, we had not one, but TWO hedgehog rescues! The team at our Leeds office, upon finding a parched, lethargic baby hedgehog in the car park, quickly tucked her up and transported her safely to a rescue centre, where she made a full recovery. And over at our site in Penrith, the lads successfully saved and released a hedgehog caught in netting that had wrapped around its neck…carefully removing the cords and checking for any injuries, they gently carried the hedgehog to a safe area nearby.

The guys in Penrith weren’t finished though, as they also discovered a barn owl trapped in bird netting at the site. Carefully freeing the owl, the team made it comfortable in a box with paper towels, and gave it water before taking it to a local vet.

Thanks to the lads’ quick thinking and compassion, the owl made a full recovery and has since been released back into the wild, near to where it was found.

Jingle Jetpack

We released our new, always popular, online game at the beginning of this month, providing a bit of festive fun in the lead up to Christmas!

We’ll be announcing our ‘Jingle Jetpack’ Christmas Game winners in January 2026, with three donations going to charities of the winners’ choosing.

As we head into the Christmas break, we just wanted to thank everybody who has been involved and supported all these fantastic initiatives this year, to achieve such an incredible contribution.

We’re certainly looking forward to yet another year packed with fun challenges and epic fundraising efforts, all in support of a great roster of wonderful charities!
