Rhodar delivers demolition works at Manchester Royal Infirmary

Posted on in Company News

Rhodar recently completed the first phase of our demolition works package at Manchester Royal Infirmary, part of a wider £40m project to transform the facilities at the hospital’s Emergency Department.

During a pre-start R&D survey, asbestos-containing paper was discovered sandwiched within the roofing material. We worked quickly to redesign our methodology to ensure the protection of patients, hospital staff and our operatives. By removing the roof mechanically, we eliminated the need for working at height and increased the distance that our operatives worked from the contaminated material. Background monitoring also provided the assurance that our control measures were effective.

Our revised methodology therefore provided a safe solution to this unforeseen project risk that mitigated the impact to the project’s cost and programme.

Well done to the Rhodar site team for another project delivered efficiently and safely.
