Kirkstall Road

Rhodar successfully completed full-scale enabling and construction works at the prestigious Latimer redevelopment scheme on Kirkstall Road, Leeds.

Historically, the site was established for a variety of industrial uses including the former Yorkshire Chemicals works, but also incorporating warehousing, basement areas, and a former film studio. An existing dilapidated steel footbridge, which crossed the River Aire, was also situated on site.

Appointed as Principal Contractor, Rhodar delivered this complex, multi-faceted enabling works programme, consisting of asbestos removal, demolition and land remediation, together with major civil engineering works, bridge replacement, river wall installation, piling platform construction, substation foundations, drainage installation, road pavement construction and utilities installation and connections.

The 45,000sqm riverside site will eventually comprise a mixed-use development, including over 1,400 affordable new homes and retail space, as well as a park, new river bridge pedestrian link across the River Aire and commercial and office space.

Working with local charity, St. George’s Crypt, temporary accommodation pods were also installed on site and remained fully-occupied for the duration of the project. Subsequently, Rhodar employed two of the residents on site to help deliver our enabling works.
