Norwich Community Hospital

The structure was surrounded to the North and West by residential properties. To the East was a staff car park that needed to remain open throughout the demolition, together with a new build development, and to the South was a service road and disused NHS boiler house. 

Having soft stripped the building, pre-planned demolition specific excavators arrived on site. Using a combination of high reach and traditional demolition specification excavators fitted with hydraulic attachments, the team carefully demolished Area 1 and methodically worked across the site.

Using a combination of crane and MEWP, the water tower housing, frame, tanks, and M&E was dismantled by hand, with a view to final demolition when the hospital was not in full operation. Pulling wires were threaded in and around the tower’s top slab and upper RC beam and then attached to a 50t demolition excavator. The excavator ‘took the strain’ of the pulling rope, whilst two other excavators cracked/pinched the lower two front RC legs and then retreated whilst the 50t excavator tracked backwards, pulling the tower to the ground.
