Accrington Market
The Accrington Market demolition project focused on repurposing two iconic heritage sites - Market Hall and Burton Chambers - while preserving their original features.
Due to the location of the two sites, a well-defined plan was essential to minimise disruptions. A timeline was established, which outlined each phase of the strip out process, with contingencies for potential delays.
The meticulous and comprehensive strip out works within Market Hall and Burton Chambers ensured the vital preservation of significant architectural features. Our skilled workforce collaborated closely to preserve original moulding and flooring, while preparing the spaces for their new purposes.
One element of the project involved the precise lifting of the Coat of Arms, weighing approximately 1 tonne, from the upper level to prevent damage. Surrounding floor structure was cut out by hand, and a small spider crane was used to safely lift the fragile crest to ground level for transport.
Through careful planning, community engagement, and a focus on sustainability, this project not only prepared the buildings for modern uses but also honoured their historical significance.
