Record £60k+ fundraising year for Rhodar

Posted on in Company News

Last year, teams from across Rhodar came together, in an incredible effort, to support a range of national and local charities & organisations throughout the country. Following a review of these various campaigns and activities, we’re thrilled to announce that our contribution exceeded a staggering £60,000 of support over 2022.

We kicked off the year with a new initiative for 2022 called ‘Charity-6’, where 6 different charities (selected by our staff at the 2021 Conference) each benefitted from bespoke 2-month campaigns. These were conceived of and organised by the charity nominators who came up with some great initiatives including online quizzes, Easter egg collections, ‘step’ challenges, clothing collections and more, each one well supported by all our regional teams.

In April, teams across the UK took part in the ‘Yellow & Blue Day’; baking with the colours, flying the flags and other various, ingenious ways to show our support for Ukraine.

As part of this initiative, Rhodar donated a brilliant £6,040 to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, which focuses on supplying essential food, water, shelter and healthcare.

Thank you to everyone who got involved.

Last May, Rhodar’s team of 9 people competed in the ‘We’re a Knockout’ charity event in Darlington. 12 teams pitted against one another as they battled through water, foam and a series of grueling inflatable assault courses - all in aid of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust Charity.

A daring group from our Southern office also participated in the Arcelor Mittal Orbit abseil in support of St. Clare’s Hospice, facing a gruelling descent of 80m down the iconic structure.

Rhodar’s long-term support for the fantastic WellChild charity continued last year as two Rhodar teams delivered an ambitious 2-day transformational garden project in Rochdale – to create a safe play environment, so that 6-year-old Lily, who has severe health and mobility challenges, could enjoy time outdoors with her family.

Continuing the support for WellChild, in September, 30 intrepid souls gathered on the shore of Derwentwater in the Lake District, to undertake the epic ’Rhodar Around-the-Lake-Challenge’. As well as reaching several summits on their (mostly dry!) 8-hour trek around the lake, the teams of 4 tackled various point-earning challenges such as canoeing, abseiling, high-ropes and orienteering

Once again, in September, Rhodar got fully behind Sodexo’s annual charity ride in support of the ‘Stop Hunger Foundation’. This epic involved a team riding 135 mile round-trip to Central Manchester Hospital to Blackpool Tower, and back – with a quick pit-stop near the tower for fish and chips for good measure!

We assisted by providing a fully equipped support van for the trip, supplying spare clothes, emergency parts, and refreshments to the cyclists throughout the day.

The weather thankfully held and it was a brilliant day for a truly fantastic cause.

In addition to raising money for various causes, we have also sponsored a range of golf tournaments, supporting charities such as Prostate Cancer UK and Mind, and local youth football and rugby teams with new kits. We take great pride in supporting a variety of youth sports teams across the country – these clubs have a huge impact on young people’s physical and mental health & wellbeing.

Rhodar also donated a defibrillator system, including a secure storage cabinet to the Dalrymple, Skeldon and Hollybush (DaSH) Project, to support East Ayrshire Council’s ‘Community Defibrillator Initiative’. This is the first defibrillator in the Dalrymple area, providing a vital safeguard for those in the local community.

December saw some wonderful organisations benefitting from appeals over the Christmas period. Rhodar donated gifts to BCEGI’s ‘Wood Street Mission’ Christmas appeal, to support families and children across Greater Manchester. We also launched our annual online Christmas Game, which was another huge success, with Crohn’s & Colitis UK, Mind and Chatten Free School all benefitting from charitable donations nominated by our three winners, with Rhodar donating £785.00 in total.

Jason Davy, Managing Director of Rhodar, stated: “As we go about our day-to-day business, it’s sometimes nice to just stop, take stock and review what we’ve achieved over the course of the year as an organisation, from a social value point of view. I’m immensely proud of all our staff for their collective energy, ingenuity and sheer hard work in delivering such a fantastic level of contribution to so many worthy charities. Well done everyone.”
